I just got off the phone with Old, the ice storm has gotten them. They have been without power since Sat. at 10:30, luckly they still have phone service. He is heating part of his house with camping heater, all water is frozen. Hauling water from pond in buckets to water stock. He kinda thinks when temp outside rises he will have lots of broken water lines. Good thing family is coping under situation,But getting bored as all they have is radio. No power to run computer.

He had his folks moved to a shelter as it is hard on the elderly under these conditions.

I will try to keep in touch with him, and update situation. Only thing is I wish I was closer to give him some help...But will be in my prayers.

Parts of south central Nebraska have been without power since the new year. On Tuesday Humbodlt had to take their emergency generator down for maintenance so the few people that did have power lost it again for a couple of hours. Not sure if Howard (Nebraska Cowman) was hit or not.

Our prayers go out to Rich and all the others up that way. I bet old is doubting that Global Warning is an issue.

Without electric for an extended period of time is tough. I guess my dad's insanity of the 5 kerosene heaters and 10 gallons of kerosene isnt too crazy. When our power is out longer then say a day, our pump loses its prime, as the check valve probably ought to be replaced. When that happens its a pita to prime it, as the 34 year old pump isnt to akeen to pumping air, so water must be fed into the suction line to get her going. We have 5 gallons of water as a backup, but after sitting years its barely fit for repriming the pump much less drinking. That is the ONLY advantage of city water. Olds seems to be a smart guy and I'm sure he'll get along. He did a good thing by having his folks go to a shelter. I know the first thing I would do in the event of an outage over a few hours is checkup on grandma. Glad to hear its getting up in the 40s today, with luck he wont have moany broken lines.

Thanks, Keith, for checking up on our friend Old and for the updates. Wish I were closer and knew exactly where he lived. I need to find a map. Do you know what he needs, besides electricity? David

David, keep us informed also. I am not sure on all that he needs. I take it that no way to cook as they are eating lots of cold cut sandwiches..Durnit I am just too far west to give him or anyone else out there any help!!!!

When we quit helping our family, friends and neighbors(whether the neighbor is next door or on the other side of the country) than we are definently DONE OR GONE TO HE!! IN A BASKET..

I din't know where old was at, I am just 45 minutes north of him. I know one of the linemen working the Camdenton area. He was thinking another two days, however the weathermen are talking 4-6 inches of snow this weekend. It is an absolute mess. Fortunately we kept our electricity. Water for the livestock would have been my problem without elec. Wonder what he needs?

Our prayers go out to Old and family. Things really get tough when you lose heat and water (no electricity). It changes your priorities. God Bless your family.

John, he is in MO, some where around Lake of the Ozark or something like that. If he was out here in the west I would haul a generator to him.. But he is too far east of me..
