My block heater doesn't warm up my IH 504 engine block. The heater outlet is hooked to a port on the left side of block. The heater inlet comes from the bottom radiator hose before the water pump. It seems to me that it should come from the top of the block above the thermostat. Does anybody have pictures of the corret installation?

There are several different ways to install a block heater, depending on whether you want to heat the entire system or just the engine. Sounds like someone installed yours with the intention of heating the entire system, which is OK, but not as efficient. I think the proper way is to use the block drain plug for the inlet, and the outlet needs to be connected to a plug in the head, most likely choice would be where the temperature sending unit is attached.
