Hello,
I have a chance to pick up a old Farmhand loader for a decent price but need to know if it would (or could be made to) fit our Farmall C. It originally came off a H. Would the frame be too long?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Farmhand Loader in reply to ruready1, 01-17-2007 04:01:06
Rusty,
That's just it, I've even tried selling it and haven't had luck with that. It runs good, doesn't smoke, good hydraulics, has a factory front end, 90%+ rear tires, shutters, front and rear wheel weights and a belt pully. The only thing it lacks is a 2pt hitch. I tried selling it for $1200 (without front weights) and got no interest.

Let me reiterate what happened: we needed a small tractor, got this by mistake, tried to make the best of it by outfitting it for "bigger jobs" with a loader or 3pt so I could use the implements I had for the Ford. OK, it's useless to us right now. Someone want to give it a good home?

We need a tractor that can get in and out of a horse barn, can use a blade or loader to collect refuse/manure, can pull a small cart for tools or manure. It would be nice if it could also do finish mowing. Our Ford & bush hog have done it, but it's NOT optimal. A garden tractor, subcompact or small utility (Cub/A/B) could do these things. The Ford 2000 can do everything else we need short of pulling a baler (we'll have to upsize at some point).

If someone here would be interested, I'll give you a good deal! Trades for garden/subcompact/SMALL utility (CUB/A/B) gratefully accepted. I'll even do a great trade towards a loader to fit a Ford 600/2000. I'll even trade for a larger (35HP or bigger) tractor (and then sell/trade the Ford for a little one).

Thanks all,
Mike

Thanks guys. It's not want I wanted to hear, but I'm glad to hear the truth. This tractor has been a disaster from the beginning. We wanted a small tractor (Cub, A, B, similar) for work in and around the barn by the ladies. We were told the C's were the replacement for the A & B and the only difference was the layout. Obviously, I figured out that wasn't true when I drove 250mi to pick this thing up (I pre-paid). It only fit on the trailer by jacking one side up. When I got it home, both ladies said they wouldn't be driving it as it was too big. I probably shouldn't have parked directly beside the Ford 2000 as the C dwarfs it. I've been out bid everytime but one when I tried getting a 2pt hitch for it. I DID finally win the auction for one, only to find out the bottom frame was for a 230 and wouldn't fit! So now we have a tractor that's too big for the need, too weak (20 vs. 32HP) to take over the "big" jobs and doesn't even have a hitch so I can't bush hog or grade with it!!!! Now I find that it won't work with a loader. I hoped that it would work so that I could justify having the stupid thing around. So much for that. It runs great and is fun to drive but that's all I can do with it. I'm really sorry I ever bought a Farmall, let alone this thing.

Al, the loader is on eBay, #280070281385. Good luck with it!

Just as a note, I'm not mad at anyone here. I appreciate the honesty and good advice. I'm just really sour on red tractors right now.

Take Care,
Mike

The primary input I would give is that there may not be the "old" red tractor meeting your needs. It sounds like you need a Kubota with loader and class 1 3pt hitch and assorted implements bush hog and blade. 5000 might buy the one on Ebay. The tractor you have will sell to someone who needs it, Cs are very nice for 15 acres of truck patch and having a small tractor amid some bigger ones. Not to worry. JimN

Jim,
Yup, a $5000 Kubota would work great. Do you have some cash you can loan me? Seriously, I couldn't easily afford a $500 aftermarket hitch for the C. I doubt that a $5000 tractor is feasable at this point. We're currently carrying 2 mortgages. Until we get the other house sold, or BOTH tractors, anything costing that much will just have to wait. I know it was meant to be a helpful suggestion but I need to find something I can trade even up for or AT MOST add $350 to the C. A little harder working with my budget!

Thanks anyway,
Mike

This is Allan in Ne's Farmhand F11 Loader on an H:

The loader that comes up with that number on Ebay is not an F11. Maybe an older IH? The ladies would hate that trip bucket. Looks like they painted the lift cylinder pistons, too.

That C you have now should be easy enough to sell.

If you will clue us in as to just what you need the tractor for, we can make a few suggestions as to the makes and models that would be appropriate.

The first suggestion I will make is that if you need a tractor with a 3 point hitch, you really need to be looking for a tractor that offered the 3 point as original equipment. The aftermarket add on stuff is OK, but is not as good as factory installed.

Mike, I am curious - ok, nosey, where are you located? I have a Farmall 340 w/factory wide-front and would like an all hydraulic loader. I only want a small one as I don"t want to overload/work my tractor. Also, no power steering. I read lots of comments about overworking loader/tractors and also see ads stating "...loader has welds/bent/but it can be fixed/probably wasn"t overworked...blah, blah, blah. First to admit I am far from expert, but please listen to those on this board that give good advice. Get a big enough tractor or small enough loader so you don"t create headaches for yourself. Weeks/months down the road, you may get frustrated and wished you would have made some better decision and find yourself wanting to drop the bucket on your head.

Maybe you should buy the H. in reply to ruready1, 01-17-2007 04:01:06
You could put that on an H and save your C. There are a lot of H tractors out there and a good plain running H doesn't cost that much.

Consider what Nat and The Unforgiven say, This tractor is frameless in the area of the engine. Further, it has modest hydraulice. Nats Idea is good if you are that type, but overloading the engine (especially at the front casting mounts to the block) is a real issue. I would lift no more than 600# including the wt of the loader/bucket. Just my opinion, JimN

The only way I would even recommend you consider it is if you're planning on using the loader as the basis for building a much smaller loader that is better suited to a C. Cut the loader up and use it to build a scaled-down version of itself. But, that's a lot of work.

I'm sure you could trick something up to mount it, but it would likely be too much for a C, they aren't much of a loader tractor.

We ha F10 Farmhand loaders mounted on a To-30 Ferguson and a Farmall M. The loader frame for the fergie was a cut down version of the one on the M However, the hydraulic lift arms were the same length.
