Want to wire my front lights on an M i have just purchased. Has been converted to 12 volt. What is the wiring for the lights? I assume hot to switch, swith to lights and the lights are grounded by their mounting on the tree?

I rewired my 1940 H and had the same type of problem. What I found was I did not have a good ground. (ITS ALL ABOUT A GOOD GROUND)I thought I had a very good ground but I was wrong. Run a wire from you battery's ground and touch it to one of your reflectors along with the hot wire then you will know if it's the ground or not. It helped me solve my problem.
Thanks Carl from Michigan

Depending on which bulbs (and assuming a teardrop housing) it could be that the spring and fiber plate in the socket is not following the bulb into the socket to make connection. There needs to be a socket cleaner wire brush (looks like a bottle brush) or 1/2" copper pipe cleaning brush, used on the socket (with power off) Clean and bright is good with silicone grease to keep it rust free. On some the housing is rusted where the socket attaches and results in a poor ground. Be careful with the Dim circuit resistor, it cannot have more lamp watts than stock, or it will glow and burn out. JimN

Sounds like it could be a poor ground. Check where the light clamp bolts to the light bar or where the light bar bolts to the pedestal.

check that. ran a temp. direct wire to light from battery, checked power on pin light and had power in the light socket but can"t get bulbs to work. have tried 3 seperate bulbs and unless i have chosen 3 bad bulbs, can"t figure out why light will not work.
