My cub is hard to start and then lazy when running. I think it is the carb. The carb leaks and puffs gas when starting. I changed th eplugs, wires, fuel strainer and no improvement. Thoughts. Thanks

First thing is to repair the carburator. Next thing is to accomplish a complete tune up (plugs, points, condensor, ignition timing, replace all damaged or worn parts), compression check, and including valve tappet clearance. Clean the entire air cleaner not just the air cleaner cup.

your plug wires should be metel core, not these new carbon wires, the old tractors dont work good with them. also do not use champion plugs, they are a joke, and the laugh is on you. get a bottle of mmo and follow the directions on the label for fuel and oil additive, this will aid in better lubrication and cutting away of carbon buildup and greatly inhance performance. If it puffs gas out the carb, chances are the valves need to be ground or are carboned up, hope this will help.

Weak spark could do this too. Dave.
