My old chainsaw carb had old gas left in it and now it has shelac deposit in it. I have heard if you put the carb in a can of vinegar and boil it for 15 min. it will dissolve the shelac is this true or false thanks in adv.

Don't do it! Vinegar might work on a cast iron tractor carb. But the acid in vinegar will attack the aluminum in a chainsaw carb.

Better approach is to soak it in a good quality carb cleaner (Gumout, etc).

Or soak the carb in a paint remover or brush cleaner containing methylene chloride. This stuff quickly dissolves varnish but does not harm the aluminum. Just make sure you remove ALL non-metal parts (diaphragms, nylon bushings, etc) before soaking as they will disappear along with the varnish during the soaking process!

Vinagar and carbs aren't a good mix. And on a chain saw its even worse. Use spray cans of carb cleaner

Spray it with carburetor cleaner and see if that cleans it. Hal
