casting codes?

I"m putting together a somewhat collectable H and I can"t find the casting dates on the axle housings. All I can find is a part number, IHC logo and the letter "F" indentations on the casting. This is on a 1945 tractor. Normally the casting date code is raised lettering. I have located the codes on the front bolster, cltch housing, belt pulley, and transmission case. No luck finding it on the axle castings. I am combining two tractors into one so I want the casting dates to match.

I have also seen a few Hs and Ms without any casting codes in certain places. It varies from one tractor to another as to where the codes are missing. My thoughts on this are that sometimes, during the casting process, the codes just didn't come out, or maybe someone at the foundry forgot to include the code in the mold?

Your H should have "O" casting codes for the 45. it may have some N or P but shoould be mainly O's for the mostly part.

Since you know what they are and how to interpret them, I can't help, except to say that perhaps they were new replacement castings (wierd if both are that way), and that they did not include the date. Next time I'm in my shop I will look to see if my 41 H has casting codes on the housings. The F probably meant Farmall plant, since that is where your tractor was built, but that's only a guess.

I was wondering what the "F" code was for. I checked out both parts tractors and I can't find codes on either's axle castings. I even found casting codes on the rear rims.

I meant to say rear wheel castings. I suppose if I can find any then I can do the switcheroo with the parts. thanks for the help.
