I been having trouble with our 54 Super H's brakes, they have been getting stuck and look up. For example I could be going along and just about tap the brakes and the whole side will lock up! I have to go in reverse to unlock them. I have a new set of brake disks in them and have had the outside of the brake housing machined down to true again. Do I need to do something with the accuator in the middle of the disks? I really got to get this fixing cause I really hate ripping up the driveway and the grass :(

Thanks for the Help

Andrew

How are the shafts? If they are rough, worn, or rusty, nothing will work the way it should.

The place where I get all of my Farmall Parts is Foskett Equipment in Woodstock, CT and I have had great luck with them. Their number is 928 5748 and they are right past The Village restaurant.

I know all about them. I have not had the best luck with them on parts like this. When you do go there ask for John he knows the most and is most helpful, I like him. They are ok for somethings but not all. I have been going there for years.

Hey you guys with the disc brakes you can take the lined discs out rough them up to cut the glaze give them a 1/2 turn so they go the other direction reinstall and have good braking again it has worked good for me different times of course the rest needs to be clean and dirt free.

I took mine apart and cleaned and wire brushed the balls and slots that they run in.
When I first took it apart, there was a lot of rust and dirt built up, but after I cleaned it all, they work fine.

Be sure they are clean, sand out the tracks or depressions for the balls, and replace the springs. If the tracks are badly worn, you can get those parts from salvage, they may or may not be better than what you have.

The balls are a standard bearing part. I think they are 5/8" diameter and are pretty cheap like about 25 cents each. You need 3/brake. A good hardware store, your Case IH dealer, a bearing supplier, most other brand of tractor dealers has them too. In the 50's, the double disc Lambert brake was used by a lot of tractor companies. You and the rest of us know what a PITA they are for reliability. Now pity the poor sap who bought some brand of British sport car with those same brakes, as they were also used in some expensive cars.
