THE PICTURES OF THE 140 BROCHURE ARE IN THE TRACTOR PHOTO SECTION. THESE ARE TWO DIFFERENT TRACTORS ONE HAS THE CULTIVATOR LIFT PAINTED RED THE OTHER WHITE AND THE FERT. TUBES ARE RUBBER ON ONE THE OTHER IS THE METAL COIL. ANOTHER INTERESTING NOTE WE BOUGHT A 140 NEW IN THE FALL OF 1980 AND IT HAS A SMALL MCCORMICK DECAL ABOVE THE AMP GAGE. WHEN I SAID STEEL WHEELS I MEANT THE PRESED STEEL FRONTS.

The cast/spoked wheels show in the 140 Parts Catalog. They may have been a special order. That they have been seen on highway mower tractors suggests they were percieved as some sort of heavy duty option. State bidding specs can have some wierd things so maybe it was a bid spec thing.

In your pictures, the front cover picture is probably newer as the white frames are a later paint scheme. That tractor also has 23 degree tires rather then the 45s on the other tractor. Turn to the planter picture on page 7 of the brochure. Looks like the same tractor as the front cover (probably the same driver on the same day too).

Bill: I have seen 140s with 16" pressed steel rims, in fact it was listed as an option. In fact you can still buy new 16" pressed steel rims for a 140. I am going to Miller Tire this week for a set. I could have bought them from CaseIH.

When new my 130 had the 16" rims you describe. my brother has the same on his 230. You can no longer buy those rims for cast center wheels. You can buy blank 16" rims, but you can't buy the lugs to rivit or weld in. Miller Tire have lugs for 16" wheels but they have 5/8" holes to match H, M, 300, etc, wheels. Nothing for SA, 130, 230, etc. as the circle is different.

Hugh your right on not being able to get the 16in rims with the lugs for the small cast wheel.

they must have had them special made for some applications.

there is several 100-130- 140 an i know of a couple super c in this area an two old b's that the rotary club has with loaders.

I had some of the rims an threw them in junk they laid around here for years.
i even sent them to antique shows seems as no one was enterested.

Bill

Dale: that 140 in the second photo does indeed have cast spoke hubs, and I can readily see it is IH promotional literature. Let me get this straight, you are saying IH is calling those cast wheels optional in that piece of literature, right or wrong? The reason I question you on this is, I've seen photos before in IH literature, that didn't look correct, but it also was not mentioned in any text.

I will admit, I paid little attention to the 140 when new during it's 21 year production run. I was very much aware it was a descendant of A, SA, 100,and 130, however paid litte attention to detail. During that period, I was into much larger tractors. Yes I had a SA and 130 but there was never any intention to trade them off for something newer.

I have several buyers guides around here from the 140 era, and I can't find a single tractor produced after 1958 with cast spoke front wheels, any size. It's pressed steel front rims all the way. I do know my 130 front spindles are identical to my 140 front spindles. I also know the cast spoke hub of 130 is the same internally as my 140 hub for pressed steel rim. The bearings, seals and even the dust cap are the same. Technically, I could go to my shop this am and completely change front wheels from 130 to 140 and vice versa without any added parts. If any customer back when 140 was new, wanted cast spoke front wheels for a 140, I expect it was a very easy find for an IH dealer.

I guess I'll have to see it in print to believe it was an option.

As far as the Mccormick decal goes, what I have said is it disappeared from the main decal on side of engine hood of all IH tractors in late 1967 or early 1968. If you have a McCormick decal above your amp gauge, so be it, there are still small stick on McCormick decals kicking around to this day. I bought a new tractor once, had a signature written on the mufler, never thought much about it as I figured it would burn off in a matter of weeks. I don't know what Bill Murray used in signing, but it never burned off. It was still on the mufler when I replaced it with a new one.

IT DOSN'T MENTION WHEEL OPTIONS BUT I THOUGHT IT ODD THESE TRACTORS HAD THESE WHEELS ATTACHED ON THEM PROBABLY 10 YEARS OR MORE AFTER THE END OF THE 130. THIS LITERATURE IS DATED 5-75.
