well i went and looked at the B250 the battery was almost dead so it cranked but not enough to turn it over.. however when i went to raise the hood the starter motor began to spin like crazy without engaging the startper drive. then as soon as i shut the hood it stopped any one got a clue on that?

The B250 has a mechanical lever that activates the starter and lifting the hood would not activate it, I agree with the other post that there is a wiring issue. The battery should be positive ground on those tractors. Moving the hood must move some wires that are shorting across and causing the starter to spin..weird, I would like to know the final answer if you find it

Bad wires getting pinched. If it is otherwise OK get a few bucks knocked off the price! JimN
