Just mounted a loader for my new red beauty. Hooked up the hose to the front outlet on the left side of the H...but she won't lift. Oil level is good, but when I discnonnected the hose everything was dry as if no oil was being pumped. What're the odds the pump is shot and how do I proceed if that is the case. Thanks!

Allright guys, I pulled the cover off the pump area on the belly and was greeted by a flood of oily, watery sludge! However, the cover was not on tightly so moisture could have entered from the outside. When I fired her up, everything seemed to be spinning just fine. The lower shaft I assume runs to the PTO(?) while the "T" shaped coupling above must be the pump. Evrything was spinning fine but no oil getting pumped. (pulled the hose to the loader and tried to get some oil to run)

Still confused? (nothing new!)

also try draining the oil from the pump and see what it looks like, pump should hold 2 gallons or so. if its grungy, flush the pump with kerosene good, then refill, the pump usually takes 30 wt oil, but i run i-h hy tran fluid in my pumps.

Well that was quick, SOme of them have had their guts taken out to use the system as a resevoir. If only one hose is connected as you indicated, the system probably needs to be taken apart and diagnosed, They are simple, Review material in the archives here for belly pump removal (they are heavy and need a floor jack to handle them well) The only last gasp of possible is if the rod/lever is not attached or set to turn the control valve on the inside of the pump. It has a serrated coupling some one may have put on wrong, other than that, it means pulling it out to fix it. They are for the most part extremely fixable, and almost never fail unless run dry, or run with dirty oil. Good luck JimN

did the pump work before? has it been apart? firts, open the line coming out of the pump, put the end in a bucket. start the tractor and pull the lever on the pump back slowly and watch for oil coming out of the hose. if you get it all the way back and no oil, check the pump, there should be an acess cover on the bottom bell housing area. take the cover off and peek inside, see if the coupling is in place going to the pump, you can idle the tractor and see if its spinning, dont put yer fingers or nothin up in there. if thats good, you will need to drop the pump and seperate the pump from the resevoir. there is a little fork deal inside that connects the rod linkage to the pump, be sure that is hooked up. you gotta wiggle the pump into the cover a little to get it to hook. its pretty rare for a belly pump to up and quit. is the loader 2 way hydraulics??

I don't know if the pump was working. THis is the first time I've tried it since buying the tractor about a month ago. I'll pull the hose and see if I can get some oil moving. You'll have to educate me on what you mean by 2-way hydraulics...it's a single hose from the tractor to the first cylinder and another hose from that cylinder over to the other cylinder.

the belly pumpis designed to lift only, when activated, high pressure fluid comes out to raise the cylinder, when you lower the cylinder, the oil drains back in the same hose. it was designed to raise the front and rear mounted cultivators, the two front pipes will raise the front culitvator, and then the rear cultivator will raise from the rear pipe. you should have 2 pipe outlets on the left side of the tractor, and one port on the right side, near where the hydraulic lever attaches. the pump is not live, the clutch needs to be out for the pump to work. two way hydraulics will give you power up and also power down. you can rig up this pump with an extra spool valve to run two way hydraulics. to drop the pump, you need to remove the three pipe fittings coming out of the pump body

The pump can be disconnected and not working. Also it is necessary to have the transmission turning to make it work. That means the clutch must be out with it in Neutral, or the tractor can be in gear moving. If it is atopped and the clutch is in it will not lift.
The drive for the pump is under the tractor behind the wierd shaped projection with the keyhole shaped holes in it. It is necessary to remove a tin cover plate to see it. If it is missing parts to drive the pump, they can be found easily. Good luck, JimN
