I recently aquired a international 300 utility tractor which so far have been really pleased with. The charging system has been changed over to an one wire alternator which works well. My problem is though is that someone had to space the right side hood to make the alternator fit. Does anyone have experience with installing one within the hood? I really would like to keep the alternator but I would like to get the hood back in it's original position. If not I guess I could go back to the generator. Any help would be appreciated

I TRIED TO PUT A 6 VOLT ALTERNATER ON MY 300U,BUT COULD NOT MAKE IT FIT.THIS WAS AN ALTERNATER FROM AN AUTHORIZED DELCO REBUILDER.SO I ENDED HAVING THE ORIGIONAL GENERATOR REBUILT.I LIKED THE IDEA OF THE BETTER PERFORMANCE OF AN ALTERNATER,BUT ACTUALLY THE GENERATOR HAS WORKED FINE SINCE THE TRACTOR WAS BRAND NEW.

I would try to find an alternator that fits. I changed my 300U to a 12 volt generator system but have occassional problems with the regulator or something happening to the generator. I changed my H and M to a 12 volt alternator about 15 years ago and haven't had a single problem. Unfortuneatly I don't know what type of alternator they are - they were from a Case IH dealer.

It is possible to fit it under the hood, but it is necessary to make new brackets. It is easier to change over to a Nippondenso, or Hitachi alternator. Also recient Ford alternators on Tbirds and some mustangs are of small dia. and are easy to mount. Search here in archives for connection requirments. JimN (some have an aversion to non-USA produced product, It however is an "international" tractor with a high percentage of foreign fuel in it)
