I was comparing part #s in the book today with the Parts on the tractor I'm working on, and I found a head scratcher. The front timing cover on the 1951 engine I'm working on is part # 354950R1. That # isn't in the parts book. It should be 352168R21 for a late H through a Farmall 350. I checked the # on Old Speedy that I rebuilt during the Summer, and its 354950R1. I bought that cover off of a 350 Farmall in the boneyard. Then I checked the cover that I removed from Old Speedy and it is 354950R1. I guess I didn't need to buy a cover. Does anyone have a parts book with the number for a front timing cover with the number 354950R1 ? Then I will know for sure what they are off of.
Now I'm more cornfused than ever :-( All this hassle so I could put a live pump on my H

I bought a plate and cover off a Farmall 350 to put on my 1940 H, to match up with the bolt pattern on the live hydraulic pump I had purchased. The part number on the cover is 354950R2 and the date code is 3*18*D. Being rather new to tractors, I hope this helps.

Don't know why but think most covers you find on farmall that size is # 354950 after H serial # break. fairly sure any cover with a 6 didgit # will have late bolt pattern for distributor drive housing or hydraulic pump. Does the cover from junk yard 350 have a date code on it. Most if not all 350 used a 354950 R2 cover instead of R1.

The date on the junkyard 354950R1 cover is 7-26-W, the other 354950R1 cover is 3-27-W. I can't quite read the date on the other cover because its behind the radiator. Looks like someone did some changing on the tractor in the junkyard. ken

I only have the Parts Catalogue for the H, not for a Super or 300/350. Mine says 6957DBX for Ser.#501-344863 and 352168R11 for 344864 (which would be mid-1950) up. I'd have guessed that 1950 would be too soon for IH to have known to change to the cover that would work for the live pump on the Super. If somebody has a parts book for the Super or 300/350 I'd not be surprised of the cover was the 350950R1
Good Luck, Wm
