I was reading my new Red Power today and looked at an ad for adaptors so the old tractors can use todays modern spark plugs. Anybody using the new plugs? Do they add any horsepower or last any longer? Is it worth changing over. I'd like to get a couple of more horses out of my M without going through a major over haul and I'm wondering what the newer spark plugs and maybe electronic ignition would do for me.

I agree with John T, The heat ranges needed to keep deposits off the ceramic, and to assure the cooling of the plug are well known for OEM and replacement plugs by name brand manufacturers. Putting good quality plugs into adapters is not a good idea in my opinion. JimN

Charlie, If you use an electronic ignition coupled with a high energy coil youre gonna get better combustion initiation and you may even gain a few HP on a Dyno. That ignition consistently discharges more energy across the plugs gap (to better ignite the fuel) then the old points n condensor.

If you use a plug adapter and a different plug I suspect you would gain NOTHING, might??? even loose some since the expolsion waveform may be altered or less efficient, not sure of that but Im pretty sure you would gain NOTHING versus a better chance of some gain from an electronic high energy ignition.
