I've got a McCormick-Deering Grain binder that has been kept in the shed. I have all of the canvases. It has good reels and rollers. It has open gears and steel wheels (ground driven). In a nut shell, it is field ready. There's a man who wants it, but I have no idea what it's worth. What do you guys think would be a fair price for it? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you, Todd.

Todd,

This binder is really a jewel. I pulled one of those harvesting oats in the late 1940s/early 1950s with a Case SC (Yes, I'm old, 69 yrs). It needs to be protected from the weather...forever. If you really want to sell it (I think you will regret this as you get older) maybe you could contact your local tractor club or the Internation Harvester Collectors Club for further guidance. These clubs or museums might not have any money to buy it, but it sure would be nice to see on exhibit! You live too far away for me, but if I could I'd buy it and then donate to a ag museum if it's in as good shape as you describe.

If your buyer leaves it outside, or is poor on maintenance, this binder will literally rot away quickly due to all the wood and canvas on it.

From a guy who has been there, pulled that.

LA, you said a mouth full. Those wooden rollers won't take much weather before they fall apart. I'm 39 and I've used it a right smart myself. Every year my dad, my brother, myself would plant rye. Then in the summer we would cut it with the binder and shock it up to dry. Then we would run it through the thresher (22x36 Frick). Then bale the straw. The man that wants to buy it, is the son of the man that owned the thresher. He wants to buy the thresher and use it at local show. But he'll need the binder to do that. His dad's binder was left out in the weather, and it rotted to the ground. He has still got the tractor and baler his dad used when he was a thresher in the community. My binder has been in the shed since I brought it home 20-25 years ago. Thank you for the reply, and a chance to go down memory lane and share some of my stories with you. Todd.

todd, iv'e been selling some of those for 400.00 in good shape. sometimes you have to go less if it needs work, but most of the time i sold to the amish or someone needing one for a threshing show.the smaller ones do a better job in heavy wheat. the pto ones are needed for mud.

Thanks, that's what I figured, but wasn't sure. To my knowledge, all it needs is the strap on the bundle carrier fixed. It broke the last time we used it. Give me a little time to put the canvases on, oil up the chains, take the road wheels off and turn the tongue around and she ready to work. Thank you for the information, Todd.
