I'm working on a super C #168240 (1953). The block casting # is354898R2. It has a dipstick by the oil filter housing. However there are also test cocks on the oilpan to check the oil level. Has somebody switched the block or the oil pan? Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help guys. One thing about it I have no excuse for not checking oil with both options. Ha! Hey trw our tractors must have followed each other down the line. I have no idea how you find the build date. lol

Hey "mostly green", my Super C serial number is 168597. Do you think they might have been made on the same day? I wonder if there is some way to determine what day the tractor was made? My wife was born on Jan. 18, 1953 and she calls my tractor old. Wonder if she is older than the tractor??? On the dipstick thing, mine does NOT have a dipstick, but it does have the "plugs" in the oil pan. I think, but not 100% sure, the engine and pan on mine are original.

Any daily serial number information is fragmentory at best. I have some monthly numbers from Louisville, but even that is incomplete. Both of your tractors were built in April 1953.

Thanks for the info. It is nice to know where and approximately when it was built.

That block casting number is right for a Super C. Someone must have drilled it and added the dip stick.
