The steering pump under the steering wheel is leaking out the bottom. i put a new seal in it (the big cylinder shaped one on the bottom) and put it back together, torqued the bolts right according to the book and still leaks around the sleeve on the top. Leaks the same as before without replacing old seal.

leaking arround bottom is a common problem on a cold morning after first starting. The common problem fixing it is getting the wrong sleeve from the parts man. The new one should be about 1/8 or 3/16" longer than your old one so that it commpresses when you assemble it. There are about 3 or 4 different part numbers in the IH system that are close but not close enough. I have replaced dozens of them over the years.

Hey Brian.....I have the same issue on my 1466. Leaks out the bottom of the steering unit not the top seal under the wheel. Looks like I"m gonna have to remove it and replace all the seals. Let me know how yours goes....

If the seal under the wheel was leaking then WHY did you take it all apart there was no need for that just removeal of the snap ring and a quick twist of the wheel would have poped that old seal out . Now if the leak is around the bottom then you will need the outer sleeve seal that is when ya have to remove the bilts and slid the new rubber seal around the outside , this will requier removal of the hand pump . In my years of working on binder i have only had to replace two .

The leak was around the top of the outer sleeve seal when put back together. put it back together and put on tractor with new seal and still leaks. Do you know why it would do this?
