Hello guys. I am a johnny popper freak so i know nothing about farmalls but I am going to purchase a farmall H for loader work. This loader is a trip bucket mechanism. First i will be attempting to smooth out a driveway to get to a piece of land to later pull out scrap metal. My question is is an H with a trip bucket good for redoing a gully washed driveay and secondly would it be good for loading scrapmetal.

Its all in how you learn to use it. My dad had a H with an early Farmhand loader (1952) and used besides loading manure, to dig rocks, made many a field ditching, fix farm roads and push snow. That set up worked for him from '52 until he passed away in '01.

It's not the best setup, but I would ditch the loader and put on a an all power unit(no trip buckets) with a pto hydraulic pump. Have a Do-All 250 on our H and I have done many grading jobs around the farm as well as removing scrap iron from the grove. Bottom line, it's a workable setup.

I have a trip bucket loader on a Farmall Super M-narrow front. The loader is a Farmhand F-11 (I believe). I bought it from a guy who had had it on a H. He had busted the casing on his H using it. I think he got into some rock with it. I have had it on my M for 15 years though and have not had any problems with it. I have found that I use the loader quite frequently. Have to be careful not to over tourque it into the ground when scraping up dirt to move, like someone mentioned, it"s not a bulldozer. If the dirt is loose or has some moisture in it, it does much better (scraping up). It will work well for lifting scrap metal and will do okay filling in a washout-if it is not a major wash-out.. It will take some time though. It will not quickly move a lot of dirt, but it can get the job done. There is a lot of moving forward, backing up, etc (after tripping the bucket to reset). Be careful, particularly on a hill and slopes and if there are shallow depressions that you might back into. It can be rather awkward. Keep the bucket as low as possible when loaded and go slow. My M has power-steering. Without power-steering, I would think it could be very difficult to manuver because there is a lot of weight on the front-end, it would be tough to easily steer and move it around with much precision.

An H with a loader will do the job for you, but there are other tractors that will do much better. How about a skidsteer? Those machines will run circles any tractor with a loader, and would be much better suited for loading scrap iron.

Be patient. It's not designed to be an earth-mover, though it will do a surprising amount of work once you get used to it.

Keep the loader low, and go slow. If you're loading heavy stuff with it, spread those rear wheels, and put some weight on the back end.

For digging and precise leveling, a hydraulic tilt bucket is much much much much better.

Also, the older loaders were even less suitable for use as bulldozers than modern loaders.

What you need is a bulldozer, not a tractor.

if it has the original buck then NO it is not doesnt really hold anyhting but if it has a bigger bucket then original then yes it would be a plus if it had live hydros and power up and down

all depends on the loader

Sure, Especially if it has live hydro. They will lift well, and last "forever" Be careful to keep heavy loads low when traveling, and at modest speeds. JimN
