Fellows, I have a 706 Wheatland gas with a bad, bad engine. The head is cracked along with the rest of it being worn out. My choices seem to be to rebuild it, buy another engine, or part out the machine. I'd like to replace the engine. Where do go to get one of those. Gas, diesel, LP, really doesn't matter.

I should have a used head for you 706. Send me the casting number off of your old head and I will look.

Assuming you don't have a cracked block or broken crank, rebuild the one you have. Have the head welded. Any 263 from a 560 or combine will work, there are differences in head etc. You could also go with a 291 combine engine but chances are whatever you find will need rebuilt so might as well keep the tractor as original as possible by rebuilding your engine.

There are different combustion chamber shapes for the gas heads. If you try to put a 560 gas head on a 706 the pistons will hit the head.

Hi, 715 combines have the same engine except they have no sleeves, that makes them a 301 cubic inch. Troughout the midwest there is a lot of them. The 615 has the 263 gas or 282 diesel, but there is not as many of them. Good luck, Chuck

Since you know your engine I would rebuild it. Sleeve kits and bearings are still available. If the crankshaft needs to be ground undersize your local auto machine shop can get new undersize bearings. Check with your auto machine shop about your cracked head. They may be able to pin it. Hal
