Ok, so I have 4 foot of snow in the driveway and need to get it cleared. I've got my W9 with a front blade, go to fire it up, start pushing some snow and it drops cylinders, sounds like it's running on 1-2 cylinders. I pull a wire, hold against the block and it is sparking (seems weak though). So I back it into the drive, shut down, pull plugs, make sure no moisture in the distributer, find no problems. Ran great last time I used it, but it was 40 degrees warmer then. Could the mag be the problem, not liking the cold weather? There is some snow sitting on the mag too, I'm open to tips, need to get some cars unburied so I can make it into town at some point and don't really want to get the shovel out...

Chad - I'm guessing a bit of water got into the magneto. Do as the others below suggest: Remove the coil and distributor covers and use a hair dryer to to dry out the stuff inside.

Another possibility however is carburetor icing. Under the right conditions of temperature/humidity this will give a rich condition sufficient to cause misfire. In my experience cylinders #1 and #4 go out first, then if icing persists it'll then kill #2 and #3. However after the engine dies heat soaks down to the carburetor and melts the ice - the problem will be gone upon restart.

Are all of the wires sparking, or just one? Rustyfarmall has a good idea with trying to dry out the mag. Might want to check the wires too. Also, is it possible it got overchoked and flooded out 2 cylinders? I have had it happen to me on our M where all of a sudden two cylinders cut out. Just a few ideas. In Wisconsin we haven't had much use for the loader yet. I've used it one day to move snow so far. Good luck, and I hope you get it going.

This might be a shot in the dark, but you might try using a hairdryer to dry that mag out.
