Have a 1466 and a few years ago the tractor started to let equipment go down slowly. Its not a real problem but next spring i would like to rent a john deere no till drill that needs constant down pressure so this may become a problem. I switched one of the quick coupler sets in the back but that didn't solve the problem, I am guessing its in the control valve, but don't know being both controls leak down slowly, would appreciate any advice if you have had this problem and the cure. Thanks for any replies.

Thanks for all replies, i need to talk to someone about the drill again i guess i could just leave the lever in and that would hold the pressure down if the remotes do leak some pressure. I am talking about the remotes not the 3pt, they must need rebuilding they use to hold now they both seem to leave pressure by, i swithced the quick couplers thinking they might be leaking by so it must be in the controls, thanks again for replies.

No open center hyd system is made to work constantly against relief, which would happen were you to hold lever on to keep constant down pressure
on drill. A check valve is your only option.

Seals and orings WON'T stop it from leaking down as was said before all the orings do is to keep oil from leaking on the ground,It's the spools and bores they go through are WORN OUT and letting oil leak by, All you can do is to install a alternating check valve. As for the down pressure the leaking by won't affect it,cause the valve has to be held open and flowing fliud constantly

Moline If you are talking about the remotes, that is not a sael or oring problem. The remote valves are hound to fit and after some ware will leak down. A check valve just before the couplings is the fix.

Since the drill uses the remotes for constant down presure you will have to have the valve open and there for it will not leak by because you are keeping presure on it. However it does sound like your remote valves may need rebuilt. But I don't think it will affect the operating of the drill because your pump will still be pumping continous pressure since the valve is open. A friend of mine has one of these drills, I don't understand why they use the hydraulics that way seems as though they could have engineered something that didn't take cont down pressure. I know he ran his some without cont down and couldn't really tell any difference but in really hard round it would probably help keep a constant depth. Brian

You are aware that the 3pt hitch does not provide down pressure on IH tractors, correct?

By the wording of your post, though, I would presume you mean the hydraulic remotes. These are located under the seat, and aren't too bad to work on once you get them out. The seals/orings are probably worn and need replacing.

Does it leak down when it is sitting or is it doing it when the engine is running? Are yyou talking about the 3 point or the hydraulic cylinders??

Are you talking about the hitch or the remotes?

When the tractor is running, can you hear a "singing" sound under the seat in the hydraulics as the tractor is just setting there idling?

Allan
