I've been using my old Super A for many a year now, but my uncle has gotter his father's Allis G and claims it it 10 times better for the job. Willing to let me use it if I like. It may just be my dumb luck, but things always seem to break when they are borrowed. I was wondering if its worth a try, or am I better off sticking to my Super A? If it really is that much better, I might not want to try it. Can't miss what you don't know. Thanks, Mike

Guys- thanks for the input. I already have a Sup H a Sup C aSup A,a Case 311B, Oliver 1600,and 550, Int. W-4, Int o-12, and a few others that arn't running. I just want to have the BEST for cultivating. The Allis G is NOT for sale, so if it is greatly better I would rather not drive it and then curse the A from then on. Neibour was chopping corn and was way behind, so I offered to pull the wagons for him back to the farm. He told me to grab his shiney new JD 4wd, cab, probably satalite TV and a mini bar. I said no thanks, I'll pull 'em with my Super H. If I ever drive those new jobbers, my 50 yr old stuff won't make me as happy anymore, see what I mean? But if it IS that much better, then I would like to know too. Sorry if this is confusing, Mike

Do not let anyone fool you. That Allis-G is a vegetable cultivating dream machine. But beside that planting is about it. If I were you I would try it. Be carefull though might want one after using it. I read the warning from one of the other posts (you've been warned)!!. I have a lot of hours on a G. and alos a FARMALL man. good luck

Mike: I don't think I'd put a for sale sign on the Super A just yet. The Allis G is an excellent row crop cultivating tractor, however it's not much good for anything else. I don't think I'd go so far as to say the Allis G is 10 times better than the Super A, overall maybe marginally better. It's big advantage is the view of the crops and the work you are doing. I don't think the Allis G has as much crop clearence as the Super A.

If I were growing 20 acres of market garden crops, I'd definitely have an Allis G, but I'd probably also have a couple of offset Farmalls. If I were growing less than an acre and using my tractor for yard work and a host of other chores, I'd have an offset Farmall. But then, I already have 3 offset Farmalls just to get that less than an acre done.

If you do as I do, and not do as I say, you'll probably buy the Allis G and keep the Super A. Then you probably should have a small Fergie, 8N, MH Pony and a Cockshutt 20 to go with the other two. The beauty of any of these little tractors is, they don't seriously deplete your bank account.

My dad lost the farm in 1950, and before he finally got back on his feet with more acres, I spent many hours (actually 10 years) cultivating the 20 acres of vegetables that the bank didn't take with an H. An H is not too big for the job, actually it was excellent, but a Super A would have done just as well (I did some cultivating with a B before the bank took it away). A AC G is not a real tractor, not good for any acreage at all, unless used on 5 acres or so. Sorry if the AC fans get mad. I don't think a G would be any better at all. If it was all a person could afford, it's better than a horse.

Well, I have a G (in fact, two of them), (one of them has been in the family since new) and I just live to cultivate with it. Single row, yes, for small acreage plots, yes, fun, yes...so, if you are doing some serious cultivating...Go with the A(or did you say C) and if you want to have fun, and are not in a hurry, the G would be my pick. Maybe I am a little partial to them as I have rebuilt 4 of them in the last 4 years...2 for me and 2 for friends.

My post above is not meant to reflect in any way against what you said. All I meant was if you are really farming as little as 20 acres, you are simply not going to get much done with a G. But, if I ever found one at a sale, I would consider buying it to restore -- they do have some value. We got by fine with the H on the 20 (actually more like 30 acres, but it wasn't all planted at once). It was the only tractor we had for a long time, used for cultivating and tillage. A G cannot be the only tractor on even a small farm like we had.

There is nothing better than farmall for cultivating any type of crops. The super c is my choice. You can cultivate two rows at a time.
