340 International use to run the best, now it won't start unless I take the air filter cap off and cover it with my hand. It will run as long as I keep my hand over the intake, and let in just a small amount of air. If I take my hand off completely it will die. Any suggestions? Dirty carb? Thanks

Loosen the gas line at the carburetor and see if there's a good flow of gas. Hold a can under the gas line and catch the fuel. If there's not much gas there's blockage somewhere in the tank,
sediment bowl screen or gas line. Look in the gas tank with a flashlight for dirt or rust. If you have a good flow at the carb. I would clean the carburetor in carburetor cleaner. Check the inlet to the carb for a screen that may be blocked. Clean all the jets too. Hal

Sounds like you"ve got a restriction somwhere between the bottom of the fuel tank and the carb, or a plugged passage in your carb. I would suspect the carb, but it"s real easy to check the flow out of the tank and through the fuel line.
