On the YT serial number chart there is no serial number break for 1943 and the year is not even listed. Other places I have checked show the same list, 1943 is missing. Does anyone know what the start number for 1943 is? Or did they shut down?

They didnt make these tractors during WWII because they were making military items for the govt.Such M1 garand rifles wich are highly collectable. They are one of the more valuble M1s.

During WWII, IH made a variety of machinery for the war. It included half tracks, gun carriages, prime movers and some things that were essentially civilian machines with OD paint. But M-1 rifles were not on the list. IH M-1 rifles were made later, during and after the Korean War.

According to Guy Fay's "IH Tractor Data Book", the year 1943 for A's & B's is listed as "officially, no production".

No doubt due to war production making military equipment the priority.

It was probably do to the war effort. Most assembly plants like the automotive industry switched to making tanks and trucks. The old Packard company was making the Packard-Merlin engine for air planes. GM was making tanks.

Looking at the production numbers for the first three years, then from 1944 on, it would be logical to conclude that they stopped production on As and Bs in mid-1942 due to the war.

They made roughly 25,000 As and Bs per year up to 1942, then only about 13,000 over two years. After the war, production numbers were up in the 20,000+ unit range.
