Does anyone know how to get the Ignition Key assembly out of the steering colum of a S-10 pickup. I have one that is damged and I need to put a new assy in--in olden days you stuck a pin in a hole and pushed and pulled it out...but I canot figure this one out.

Will add you may I always do disconnect the turn signal switch at the lower column to give enuff room to pull up the turn signal switch. The T/S switch has a stamped steal actuator plate that goes over to the wiper/dimmer switch. Make dang sure its seated correctly in the T/S when ya tighten it down or you will break the T/S switch, also make sure the T/S switch izz seated well also. Tools needed are a steer’in wheel puller and a lock plate depressor. The lock ring that retains the lock plate kin be a PITA to remove. I spec Auto zone or advance will loan ya the tools to change it out. I don’t think this izz your case but if the same key izz used to unlock the door that’s used to start the truck you need to go to a dealer and git the lock cylinder so they kin code it to yer old key. I injoy this kinda werk, I call it sit down werk, hard to beat sit down werk. I replaced the actuator rod (lock cyl to ign switch) and the lock cylinder housing in a 91 this week. Nice easy (sit down werk) $175.00 labor.

One thing to add to what the others have said you need the switch in the Asserriy position to be able to remove it. I have the same type of problem on my 1980 chev 1/2 ton but the key is locked in the on position so I just broke a couple things and use the rod to start it since I'm not worryed about how it looks and I don't have to worry about it being stolen. Shoot if some one is dumb enough to steal my truck then there pretty bad off and will end up worse off then whenthey started. Its a good old truck but you have to know what your doing to be able to drive the thing. Sort of anti theft in its self the way I have it rigged

First you have to pull the steering wheel, then compress the plate underneath the steering wheel with a special tool and remove the snap ring and then the plate, then remove the screws holding in the turn signal switch assembly and pull it up out of the way. You will then see a torx head screw that holds the lock cylinder in place. Remove the screw and then you can pull out the lock cylinder

HI If it is typical and I think it is. You have to remove the steering wheel. Then remove the turn signal switch you do not have to unhook the wires just pull it up and aside. Some of the lock cylinders have a screw that holds them in
the others you have to find the release button
usually there is a little slot or hole you can see
then it just pulls out stick new one in and put everything back I just did a Dodge truck a month or so ago

What year?

If early 80's to mid-90's, you have to pull the steering wheel, the lock plate beneath the steering wheel, and then get the turnsignal switch out of the way, all to expose a screw that engages with the slot in the bottom of the lock cylinder, preventing it from pulling out.

After the screw is removed, the cylinder pulls right out.

Later ones are different.
