Hi Folks I went to see just which cylinders were froze up. I removed the rod cap of the one that I knew for sure was stuck and behold i turn the crankshaft with my hands. Well happiness struck me knowing that 3 of my pistons are moving but that last one is in there tight. I beat on it some with a board and hammer and even put a little pressure with my jack and board and not a thing. So I guess im gonna let it soak for a while longer until I get a greese zerk welded into a sparkplug fitting and go that route.

if all else fails,just for the heck of it, clean all the oil out of the cylinder and try some tile and tub cleaner such as tilex or clr as they are made to remove rust and water deposits. just might work, let us know if it does. RP

Well since you have the pan off why not pull the head. Then in the cylinder thats still stuck fill it with tranny fluid and let it sit a few days. Then top it off again with tranny fluid and a table spon of gas. Lite it up and let it burn till the flame dies and do it again say 2 or 3 times then tap it a few times and it will probably pop free. If it doesn't then theres probably no hope in saveing that sleeve. BTDT and had good luck that way other then on one engine and that one needed a new sleeve

If he does decide to pull the head and can get the sleeve out with the piston still froze in it, he could try throwing it in the oven (after all the flammables have evaporated) at about 300-350 degrees for about 20 minutes, the sleeve will expand and might break the piston free. It's worth a shot I guess.

Shoot right now you would need to move 4 or 5 other tractors just to get it out of the shed. Its parked in the back next to my 1935 JD-B with my oliver 77 and allis speed patrol and ford 841 all in front to the S88 and the JD-B

I dont think pumping the cylinder full of grease will do anything. Grease is not viscous enough to get down into the rings, nor it is a means of loosening up things. have you tried tranmission fluid?

Jay, I don't think he is thinking about grease getting down to the rings. If he fills cylinder with oil and make sure valves are closed on that cylinder, the grease gun puts out in excess of 1000psi. Therefore he will be using high presure to get piston to break loose.HTH

Thats a good idea, and with that method u dont have to worry you are binding the pinston sideways by not getting directly in the center. maybe put a bit of tranny fluid in, then use the gun to force it down into the rings.

I'm still learning =)

Jay, you can use same principle to remove blind bearings, also pilot bearing from end of a crankshaft.

1, find a shaft that fits in the opening of bearing.

2. fill cavity with grease, flush with outside of bearing.

3. place the shaft in the center opening of bearing, hit the other end of shaft with hammer. This creates hydraulic action forcing bearing to move outward.

This works really well when you can't find or do not have the right bearing puller...HTH

Keep soaking that cylinder and keep tapping the rod with a piece of oak and a big hammer. The sleeve may come out with the piston. Hal
