M or Super M?

I have acquired the propane fueled hulk (no sheet metal or rims) that I mentioned a couple of weeks ago on this forum. I can't seem to read anything under the "model" section of the tag but the serial number is 22788 (no X1 behind it). Is it possible to know whether this is an M or SM from the above info? I suppose I can try some better tag cleaning method to find an M or SM on it but haven't gotten there yet. Will appreciate any info.

Disc brakes were available on M's from 1946 on.If they would have stayed with Osco Lambert's design we would not have all the problems we have today with disc brakes

What is the prefix on the serial number? A prefix of FBK indicates an M. The super M will have a prefix of SM. Also, check the casting codes. A letter code of X, Y, or Z would indicate a super M, although X could also indicate an M. Anything other than X, Y, or Z is most likely an M.

Thanks to RustyFarmall and superih for all the info. It's a regular M and it appears that the propane thing is a conversion. I also managed to find the "M" on the mouldy serial number tag. Thanks again.

Its a super M if it has disc brakes, an IH emblem on the front of the grill, the engine has C-264 cast in the side of it, the carb has the choke lever on the side towards the engine, casting codes have an X or Y in them, has a 3 bolt starter (early Super M did have a 2 bolt).
