Id go along with that statement. 100 hp is in the $3000 range for a good engine. There is alot less costly things a person can do and have a stout tractor for any use. Like mentioned before,,, a 450 engine. the best version of that engine series, which had alot of upgrades for enhanced performance, 281ci, makes for a real good low gear puller that can handle some pretty big tires!! an engine like that is not much more than a stock rebuild, and lots of options are available! If you got a M block, you can have the 450 sleeves put in, takes you out to 281ci, add the 450 cam, and head, and have a good base engine to start with. In my M, I got a 450 sleeve and piston kit in a M block, 450 cam and a 8060 head and I have alot of fun with it at the pulls with power to spare in most cases,, so it just depends on how much money you want to spend,,,, a little can go a long ways.
