My father has an International 404 like the one in the picture below and I was wondering where I could find an origianl style seat and not the pan style seat which is on it at this time.

Im also looking for sheet metal parts for this tractor. I need the hood side sheetmetal and the entire draw bar hitch along with the original lighting and the emblems on the side sheet metal.

As to the seat, call Easy Bob's Tractor Parts, 765-675-2530. He sells new reproduction seats, I don't know if they fit the 404, but he will be able to tell you what fits what. IH parts catalogs are now online on several sites. Look at www.caseih.com do a parts search -- you can compare part numbers, that will also work for parts like your grille, which may or may not be like some of the others.

Like Hugh says, not likely to find "body" parts new or aftermarket for a 404.

Your best bet will be to start searching tractor salvage yards. There may be one in your area, but there are hundreds across the country, and one of them is certainly going to have some or all of the parts you need.

Now I'm not sure, but I believe that some tractor salvage yards belong to a nationwide network such that one yard can request parts from other yards. If you can find one of these yards, you should be able to let them do the searching for you.

The seat wont be a problem. Sheet metal will, these were not a very high production tractor, and no other sheet metal will fit. Because of low production, I doubt if aftermarket producers of sheet metal ever get interested. I think somewhere around 15,000 units, far cry from old letter series when IH turned out more than a 1/4 million of each A-SA, C-SC, H-SH and M-SM. Reproduction guys got something to put their teeth in when it comes to those old tractors.

That is precisely why IH went to 2 to 5 year production runs, eliminate the used parts supply for the old iron folks.

Hugh, I remember some years ago I was researching sheet metal interchangeability on the 404, 504, and 606. I believe all three use the same grill. I also think the 504 and 606 use the same hood and side panels. I have replacements for all that stuff to fit my 504 and it didn't all come from other 504's.

If I had a 404 and desparate for sheetmetal, I would look at a 504 parts book or go to a salvage yard and look at other 04-06 series. There may be cases where a slight rework will make the part right for another tractor.

Wardner: I wouldn't argue that what your saying can't be done. That 404 is basically SC, 200, 230, 240 chassis, That sheet metal will be smaller. I had a 504 some years ago, while the grill is same style as my current 140 there is some difference in size. I rather doubt it 404 is any larger than 140 around radiator and grill

Hugh,

In so far as the grill goes, I remember looking at a Central Tractor catalog and seeing the same part number for the grills of both a 404 and 504. I have a replacement grill for my 504 somewhere in the barn but have not used it yet. I also remember the salvage yard operator being surprised when I showed him the listings in his copy of the catalog. I am fairly certain he sold me a 404 grill. I am kinda vague on this as it happened 10-12 years ago.

Thanks for the replies.

These 404's are real hard to find parts for and thats why I posted it here so as I could get replies for the folks who help others out when in a bind.

I may have to make the side sheetmetal and just rework the rest of the sheetmetal.

I was hoping to find a place for replacements because im trying hard to redo dads 404 before his next birthday which is not far away.

Bought him new rear tires already and he was very blessed that I did.

Thanks again and Ill keep looking and if I run across a place that offeres any type of replacement sheetmetal ill post it on the board.
