This weekend I went out looking for tractors, and came across a Super WDR-9. Serial number was 760 J. I haven't been able to find out what the J stands for in the serial number. I was wondering if anyone knows how many Super WDR-9's were made. All the books I have lump all the supers together, and say around 6400 to 8000. There seems to be some conflict in numbers. The tractor is in great shape, complete, but stuck engine. What type of value would you figure it could be worth? I am thinking about making an offer, but am not sure of the value on it. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the information gentlemen. The guy was trying to get $3000 for it, but I told him that was way too much. I needed something to go on when I make a counter offer. He has 5 WD-9's with various pieces missing, and one WD-9 with a free engine, and this SWDR-9. I am trying to work out a deal for all of them. As for engines being stuck, that doesn't scare me too much, manage to find parts that I need. It does take time though. We will have to see what happens here in the future, he won't load anything until spring, so I have time to think.

Yep, I agree he's high on his price. That IS a kinda rare tractor, but that's about what a running one should bring.

Throw him a lower offer and you two hash it out, maybe you'll come to a conclusion that suits ya both. The REAL value of anything is exactly what it finally sells for.

Unless it has good tires, especially rears, figure value with a stuck engine as slightly more than scrap iron price usually...heck, the trans and rearend could be junk too for all you know without being able to drive it. Being's it's a somewhat "rare" tractor, and the tin's OK, a bit more than scrap would be fair.

A couple years back I bought a 650D, decent tin but not all tin there, tires held air but that's all, stuck, for $350.00. I was expecting him to price it higher and was willing to go up to $500 when I called the guy.

I got lucky on mine and had it unstuck and running the same day I got it home....still needs work on the #1 exhaust valve though.

J is the designation for Rockford clutch, a better clutch than the one in previous models. That suffix is usually seen only on the Super series, so it probably appeared about 1952 or so. The WDR9 is "relatively" rare and unusual, although actual production numbers are hard to come by. The engine will cost $$$$ to restore, but you will have something if you are able to find the parts. I really have no idea what it is worth in its current condition.

It is kinda unfortunate the IH records have all models of a series lumped together. My Guy Fay book has 10938 S 9's. I am into the 00 series following the S 6's and S 9's etc. In 56 there were 673 S 9's built and 1484 600's built, slightly more than the 1830 S 9's in 55, and less than the 3662 built in 54 and a whole lot less than the 4773 built in 53. Summer of 06 I bid on a 600 poor unmatched tires, good tin and running on gas only, it sold for $2500 C$. I bought one running, good rubber and good tin for $2700 C$ off of this site. A SWDR9 stuck may need big $ especially if the valve train is stuck, I would thnk it would have to be real good cosmetically and tires to make $1000.
