I just installed a alternator kit I bought from Martin's equip on a SM I am restoring and I was very impressed with the kit it was well built and easy to install the only modification needed was a 1 inch longer belt and because I was installing new belts that wasn't a problem. I am also going to install a new wireing harness so I called Brillman and he makes a new harness for the one wire alt setup. I know the correct police won't like it but i'm doing it and it will be my way. I set all the sheet metal back on today just to be safe but the alternator fit under the hood is great.

The kit was complete with the resistor or you could get a 12 volt internal resisted coil your choice I use the 12 volt coil on my H and it works fine and you don't have that external resistor.

I've got both my H and M on a 12 volt alternator and its the best thing I ever did. It seems I was always having to get a generator fixed or replacing a voltage regulator and I haven't done anything except change batteries in the 15 years since I made the change. I put a 12 volt generator on my 300U it it keeps reminding me why I went with an alternator on the other tractors.

If you use your tractor and don't just show it then to heck with the correct police. Think you will like the conversion. It will certainly start better and if you run lights the bulbs will be much cheaper and easier to find than 6 volt. Did the kit inclued the 12 volt coil or resister to use ahead of the 6 volt one? You will need to change the wiring to the coil also as the new setup will be negative ground.
