What is the difference between the governors for the above tractors and can they be interchanged?

Lower housings and internall parts are the same except some changes IH made along the way and the throttle rod length up to the shaft that goes to carburator. H,SH,300 and 350 have a shorter housing on top of governor for throttle shaft than M through 450 do. H, SH,300 and 350 have a shorter throttle tube and shaft to carburator tha M to 450 with H being little longer than SH ,300 an 350. Some real early throttle tubes were different and latter ones use a seal for shaft compared to most mid production tractors. H SH M SM SMTA use a different shape control shaft that hand throttle linkage hooks to than what 300 through 450 use. Governor drive gears are different from H through 350 compared to M through 450 but shaft is the same that gears go on. I probably missed something.

I think there are interchangable, the rpms are mad adjustable inside the governor. the only difference is that you will need difrent throttle shafts lengths so it will connect to the carb.

I doubt if the H-350 will exchange with the M-450. There is now an easy way to find this out. Go to www.caseih.com, or www.cngco.com, or www.messicks.com, probably others and do a search, and compare part numbers, the IH parts catalogs are online. There are probably differences in the max idle rpm of some of the models, even if the parts interchange, for that you have to look at the individual model specs.

One my M I have a 400 governor on it. They all look the same. So I think they could be interchanged too.
