I have a 685 that developed a problem overnight. Was running fine then started smoking (black) at high throttle. Still runs fine at slow rpm and starts fine but when you pull the throttle past about half way starts smoking, running rough and looses power. I changed the filters even thought they were not that old. Still have the same problem. Took the fuel cap off and it sucked air right after this started.

Hi Brad, did you check/clean the air filter element. Restricted intake air flow can cause loss of power and black smoke.

Hi Brad, sounds like a fuel flow problem. Has the temperature dropped below freezing and ice has formed somewhere?
A few years ago, my brother had similar problems with his 684. He would disconnect the fuel line at the inlet to the fuel filters and use the air compressor to blow air back into the tank and then the tractor would run great for a day or week or a month. Finally he had time to take the fuel line outlets out of the bottom of the fuel tank and there was the remains of a lady bug in the right side tank. When you disconnect the fuel line at the inlet to the fuel filters the fuel must flow out at the full of the pipe or you will have problems.

Hope this helps
