I just got my Behlen road gear tore down on my F-20 since it needed all the oil leaks fixed. Upon cleaning up the parts the two piece sleeve that fits over the top shaft fell apart!

It appears that a small sleave was placed over the top transmition shaft and then a second larger sleeve placed over the first sleeve. The smaller sleeve was then welded to the top transmition shaft and the larger outer sleeve making the one thing into one piece.

The larger outer sleeve is still in one piece while the inner sleeve has completely fallen apart. Is this the way these are supposed to be put together????? All welded up or is this somebodys botch job????

Where could I find a small sleeve to fit over the top shaft and into the large sleeve and do I need to weld it like before???

This weld must have been broken already as it all came apart quite easily.

Any help anyone could give me would really be helpful.

I have what I believe to be a Behlen road box, and it has a one-piece sleeve. It is splined on the inside and outside and the shifting gear slides on it. It was not welded to the upper shaft. It was just held captive between the housing and the shaft. Email me and I will send photos of the unit disassembled.
