Hey K.B. ... did you see the oil analysis I posted on my 826 back on Nov 9? I was amazed that nobody commented! Anyway, it was an amazingly good result for an engine with so many hours. It would have been a good report for an engine with 2000 hours! I mainly wanted to double check if I was getting any signs of coolant in the oil and that was clear. No coolant and no fuel in the oil. Your original advice to avoid the extended idling and to keep that baby working really pays off in that area. My oil consumption has also gone way down, I suspect because I never let it slobber and the oil never gets diluted by diesel. I had a trouble free season this year, and if I have another next year, I'll treat the old beast to a little sheet metal replacement. Link to oil test below.

Guess I missed your original post, Jim. I don't always get on here everyday anymore. Definetly a good idea to get the oil sampled once a year. Just gives you piece of mind. You've got some impressive results there. Small coolant leaks into the oil can be hard to catch. Avoiding prolonged idling will definetly help prevent fuel dilution. The way those things smoke at idle, you just know there's got to be some unburned fuel washing down past the rings. It would be interesting to sample the oil on our 786. That 358 has 9000 hrs. and still performs like new. Our 826 would have easily got to 10,000 original engine hours had it not been for that sleeve o-ring rotting out.

Hi Jim, I am not surprised at the oil analysis results. My brother has a 454 with the 3cyl D179 German Diesel and it has over 15,000 hrs and it still runs like a top. Never has to add oil between changes and starts good in cold weather.
As someone else said these engine like to be worked and not idling around.

Well, it worked for me. If it doesn't, enter "Oil Analysis" in the seach bar above and it'll be number one in line.
