Gentlemen. THe loader( F-11) on my SM is starting to get slow on the lift, and it bleeds down a bit before it will hold position. THe cylinders were rebuilt last summer. What do I need to look at to determine if the pump is going south or I have a different problem. If it is the pump are rebuild kits available. The pump is mounted at the distributer so I have live hydraulics... THanks in advance. Tallperson

Thanks for the response guys. These are all things that I will look at. The loader is run from a 2 control section . Up,down and neutral for the bucket and up, down neutral and float for the loader arms. I will get a pressure gauge and install. I will also check into rebuilding the loader controls to eliminate the control valve bleed by problem. I will check these issues out and either up date or send up a flare for more help.. Tallperson
p.s. Merry Christmas to all and a happy New Year.

To determine if you've got a pump problem, you need to have the hydraulic system pressure tested and flow rated. A hydraulic gauge isn't expensive, but a flow rater is, so if you're friendly with the local machinery dealer, it's best to borrow, or even ask if they'd send out a mechanic to perform the tests.

Slow and leaking down, however, make me think that maybe you have a valve problem. The oil is leaking by the seals in the valve instead of going to the loader. A tired pump would cause slow response, but I don't think it would cause a leak-down.

I'd check the engine oil level just to be sure that you're not pumping hydraulic fluid into the crankcase.

Three areas of investigation occurr to me.

Is the Christmastree valve centering when off position? And are other valves getting in the act not quite centered.

Does it have power steering, if so the diverter may be sticking, or mis adjusted.

If these are OK, it may be the pump has air in it and is reduced in volume due to partial "vapor" lock/cavitation.

OTHER ITEMS:
Is the fluid contaminated with H2O, or thin.
Does it lift heavy loads as well as it did, (fast or slow)
are there restrictions in hoses (internal flaps of liner can come loose and partially block hoses/fittings. Just food for thought, JimN
