I'm over from the Case board with a question. I'm helping both the seller and the buyer(odd position to be in)to evaluate a Farmall tractor. I can't find a serial #. It's a little offset red tractor, wide front, IH mag, 6 volt, the rear has that drop gearing going out to the wheels... What else can I look for to ID this thing. I see some casting #'s here and there but I didn't see any others. Is there a plate for serial #'s or are they stamped?
Trying to do this before Christmas... My buss. partner wants to give it to his wife for mowing their field.. Better than a vaccuum cleaner huh?

If the operator's seat is on a "plunger" with a spring around it, it is a Farmall Cub. mike

Sounds like a Cub.. Cubs had a flathead engine and A's had an overhead valve engine.

Come to think of it... I think the plug wires were verticle on top of the engine. Do the OHV wires come in from the side?

A picture is worth a thousand words, but from your description, and the fact that it has the wide front, and the magneto, it just about has got to be a Farmall A. I think the serial number plate is attached to the seat frame? It is probably gone. Casting codes might be your only clue as to the date of manufacture. 6*4*I would be june 4, 1939, the letter J indicates 1940, K is '41 etc.

Sounds like an A, AV, Super A or a Cub.

Look for a serial number plate on the inside of the left-hand seat bracket. Post the sreial number and the prefix (Like "FAA").

If it has factory hydraulics, it's likely a Super A.

If it's a Cub, the serial number plate is on the right-hand side of the engine, very close to where the steering column goes in to the steering box and the prefix will be something like "F-CUB"

A picture would tell the tale fairly quickly.

Thanks. I looked at it this morning. I'll get a pic tomorrow. Has a center mower with the hydraulic arms in front of the driver on the side of the engine. I looked for a plate on the seat bracket but couldn't find one. Seat was on a spring plunger thing. Not much of a "bracket". I'll get a picture. C.

The seat you just described sounds like a Farmall cub.

Yup. That sounds like a Cub seat.

A picture would confirm it PDQ.

If it has headlights, cub lights are at top of hood, Super A at lower part.
