would an f-20 type magneto (exposed magnet)fit on an m-sm? I don't like the look of the rubber coated magneto. thanks

The F series tractor mags were base mount and the letter series tractors were flange mount, so, like Rusty said, it would be a real project. I wonder if you have a Fairbanks or other brand of mag on there. To me the H-4 mag looks right because it is right. The F-4 or E4A may not even have the correct advance curve.

Rubber coated? I've got a few of those H4 mags that fit an M or H laying out in the shop. They have a bakelite coil cover and distributor cap. No rubber on any of them. I think you would have a very hard time trying to make an F-20 mag fit.
