I have a 51 H. It is in very good working shape. It starts below freezing with a 6 volt and fires up with a little white smoke then clears up a minute or two later. Since it is getting colder I am wondering what is in the radiator? Should I find water or anti-
freeze? What SHOULD be in the radiator this winter? My first tractor...not too mechanically inclined. Thanks for your help.

I would drain the coolant and replace with a 50/50
mix of water and antifreeze. I would make sure the engine block is drained too. After filling the radiator I would start the engine and let that new mixture circulate throughout the engine.
I wouldn't delay this since a hard freeze could damage the block with just water. Hal

A fresh mix of 50% antifreeze and 50% distilled water is ideal. If you look at the label on an antifreeze container, it will indicate the protection lever at various mixes. That will give you an idea of where you need to be at. An antifreeze tester is also a very helpful tool to indicate protection.

Also be careful when purchasing antifreeze, for the fact that some is sold as straight etheyln-glycol (antrifreeze), and sometimes it's sold as a pre-mix (50% water...50% antifreeze). You don't want to inadvertantly dilute the premixed stuff with water again. I've seen that happen in the past.

Good luck!

Billy
