Hey All.

I posted a week or so ago about the potential to buy an M that was for sale locally. I have a verbal agreement to do so, and Ill go seal the deal in a few weeks.

So now of course that I own my first, I found another one up the road a few miles at a dealer. This time its an H, and it looks to be pretty good. I need to get a chance to go see it, but now I have the overwhelming urge to go get that one too... The price is definitely right.

I might end up going from no tractors to two of them in just a few short weeks.

My problem is that I dont think its going to end there... My wallet is going to be thin after the first one, and my savings will feel the dip from the second.

How do you guys stop this need for more old iron?

I also found another "TEMPORARY" fix for my addiction it is the fact that nobody around me is selling their tractor. ALTHOUGH one of my friends has a Farmall 230 with a fast hitch that has a sickle bar hooked up to it. It is painted up nice, the only thing keeping me from buying it is my cash shortage and that it is under cover and I have NO ROOM.

No cure for Farmallitis, you'll just have to suffer.

From what I have read there are two ways to stop the need for old iron.

The problem stems from the Farmall itself. It is rolling history that is beautiful and powerful. So it's very addictive, and very habit forming. (There have been studies) The two ways to get rid of the addiction:

1) Death

2) Buy a John Deere. You will be so ashamed of yourself you will leave the hobby forever.

Now Mike, I don"t know about the second one. I bought a 4020, and then felt so bad about it, I had to go buy a 826 and a 966 just to make it right!

I grew up with John Deeres and my Dad still has several old ones. I have recently purchased a 1942 Farmall BN and a 1952 Farmall Cub within a week. The BN was rebuilt when I bought it, real nice tractor. The Cub was also very nice but needed a new clutch which meant splitting the tractor. Being a Cub this was not a big deal, but I would not like doing it on a bigger Farmall Tractor. It is a lot to go through to fix a clutch. I watched my Dad replace a clutch on John Deeres a coulpe times which took about twenty minutes each. I only remember seeing that done twice in the fifty some years I have been around tractors. That is not bad considering that is about all that we used for the heavy work. Our neighbor had Farmalls and it seemed they were splitting them quite often and got pretty good at clutch fixing. I would not be too hard on John Deere Tractors. They are neat old tractors. I hope to get few of them some day. I do like my Farmalls. They are neat little tractors and buying them can be addictive. Growing up with John Deeres I am surprised I found myself buying two Farmalls within a week.

I wouldnt mind a 4020 either, or even a 3020. They both seem like pretty good solid machines to me. I know they are green, but still. I am more appreciative of the fact that they are reliable old iron than what color is painted on them.

The key is finding one in good shape that isnt going to cost me 10000 or so.

Im just worried that if I get two tractors, the H and the M, that Ill have to start working on the whole set....

Hey Erik.

Check out your e-mail. I sent you a line over there.

I have always sorta wanted a 4020, just like I have always wanted a 1066. However I really dont have anything for them to do just yet. Eventually Ill work on starting up a hay farm, but until then I guess its just a hobby. Once I get a shed, all bets are off :)

Five conditions for limitations on collecting Red tractors:
1: No more physical room within a five state area to put them.
2: Significant other reached a terminal condition such that ultimatums were delivered in clear terms (and complied with)
3: Financial constraints allowing only a few to be focused on and made proud. (this is as tough as #2)
4: People with too much money keep buying them as they are completed.
5: Death.

Well, I dont have room in a shed, but I have plenty of lawn that I can park them on. So thats not a problem. Im not married, so I dont have to worry about #2. People may buy them, but I dont see that as stopping the hobby as much as it will encourage it. I really hope that I dont die any time soon, so I guess that means that until I run out of money, Im doomed, huh?

Ill start small with the H and M, but I guess I want to someday move up to the 1066 Turbo and maybe even the 1586 (I think) with the V8. There is just something about having dual chrome stacks that draws my attention to it....

But from what you fellas are telling me, it seems like this addiction is terminal..

I wouldnt say its off the deep end as much as drowning in the deep end :)

Come on, there are plenty of uses for an M AND an M, right? And besides, If I dont get it now, what happens down the road when I wish I had bought it...

And the V8 is more for show than go I suppose... I havent heard much about them good or bad, I just know they arent exactly the easiest things to find.
