My '46 W-9 has the brass brake pedal too. I've been wondering why also.

Just a guess but it may have something to do with the Govt releasing strategic metal reserves. The armories must have had huge stockpiles of brass.

At the same time, many Asian countries were exporting large quantities of brass ashtrays and art work made from shell casings. Perhaps some of the larger sellers sold to foundries in the USA and they were able to change the factory specifications. Some brass alloys are very strong. This would include manganese bronze. Wouldn't you love to have an all brass tractor that you could polish every weekend?
