Planning to put front weights on 140. After finally finding them. Sometimes granddaddy would use them sometime not. Most time not. And I have never put them on and was to lttle to remember last time they were on. Am starting to use tractor more to disc now and think little more front weight would be nice. Weigh about 25 pds a piece. Tractor alaready has grill which about 25 pds and may only put the right side on. On the old weights looks like it takes a half ince carriage bolt. Wheel has four square holes which seem to mate to the holes in the weight. Am I right in thinking you put weight on outside of wheel hub. Thread carriage bolt through hub till it squares up in hub and then tighten? And would just putting the right side on be alright? Have run tractor with the weights but have never put them on. Thanks.

Yes. Right side and is one that normally rares up more. Besides I only found one weight. Since though I have decided to bolt it to front of grill in center of tractor. Believe it would be easier. Thanks

Am I following you correctly? Why would you put a front wheel weight, only on the right front wheel? I got some deciffering to do on that one. If the front end does come up, do you realize how hard that center pivot is going to hit on the stops with one front wheel weight?

Hugh,
I think that he would be compensating for the weight of the offset of the tractor. It took me a couple times to figure that one out myself.

Brad: If that is the case, why not put a 6' boom pole out right side from the clutch housing and hang 500# on it. I suppose he could mount a 22 mower on it. I wonder if he knows, with 23 mower you put the heavy wheel on left.

If he has his rear wheels right the tractor is balanced with same wheel weights on both sides

I am just assuming that is his thought cause it looks funny. I have never owned one and only saw them while passing them at 60MPH. sure would like to get one though, not really sure what I would do with it.

Brad: A Farmall 130 came to our farm when I was 16 years old. That was 46 years ago, and I've never lost my love of these little tractors. I farmed with tractors like H, SM, 300, 504, 656, 560, 1066 and an articulated Deere. At 64 I have a Super A, 130 and 140, plus 22 implements I either bought, fabricated or modified from 3 point hitch. We loved these little tractor for mowing 7' bar until the haybine came along. we still continued to rake hay with them even in the days of round baling, bear in mind it took both SA and 130 with two side delivery rakes to stay ahead of round baler. But you know something, a lot of kids learned to drive those two little tractors raking hay. I remember one kid in particular, back in the days of square bales and 130 only. My dad had him raking hay when he was 8 years old, and he raked it all even though dad's daily production averaged better than 50 ton per day. That young guy stayed with us until he was about 22. He had the urge to go long haul trucking. He is now 48, has seen every Province in Canada, every State on mainland USA, probably logged 5 million miles and has yet to put his first scratch on a motor vehicle. Those were the real driving schools of our great nations. My dad always said, start them off on a SA, 8N, Fergie, etc, then let them graduate to the big tractors. Of course in his day the big ones were 300, 560, etc.

Put both weights on.

Mine has a fast hitch and when we have the disks or brush hog on it your front will raise off the ground if you release the cluth to fast. Was fun when I was younger but not so much any more. On the disks we would sit some extra weight on it to get it to cut deeper and that made it raise off the ground even more.
