I have acquired an old tow-behind cheese wagon to restore, that appears to be built on two vintage auto front axles. Each 40-spoke wheel is 19", and has 6 lugs instead of the typical 5 lug Ford Model A. Does anyone have experience with this stuff to help me ID the year/
make of these wheels? There is one hub grease cover that is stamped 'Chevrolet' so hopefully that means early Chevy, and the hub-caps are stamped V8. I do have photos of wheels, axles, & spindles to email around. Thanks! Ken / ken@superfetch.com

With the conflicting Chevy/Ford stampings, it's hard to tell for sure just based on written description....although I'd bet a nickle they're Ford.

If you have pics, posting them on here would be a good plan.

Also- check out the axle(s). If the have a single vertical(up and down) hole through them about 8 inches in from the hub on each side, they're most likely Ford. Ford was also really good back in the day to have the word "FORD" cast into most parts....

Chevy axles would have a flat pad for paralell(sp) leaf springs(two springs per axle running the same direction as the frame rails) to mount with 4 bolt holes in it.

Thanks Ron. I'm having trouble getting the photos to post here, BUT if you send to my email, ken@superfetch.com, I'd be glad send various images to you. Thank you.
