Hi All, Today I received my engine rebuild kit and instead of flat top pistions, they included dome pistions. Looking at the parts manual, the only difference I seem to be able to find is that domes were used in newer IH Cubs vice flats for Farmall Cubs. Looks like the same connecting Rod was used for Domes or Flats. My '51 s/n is 138729, which is before domes were used. I already plan on using a newer crank - 357247R1 (has counter weights). I just want to make sure these will clear the head/valves and fit my '51 cub. Any Comments? Thanks for the Help!!!
Kurt

My parts book shows the same head 355691R2 used on both the Farmall Cub and the later numbered series Lo-boys.
www.caseih.com now has parts manuals online. Follow "search for parts". You could check there to compare Farmall Cub and numbered Lo-Boy parts compatibility.

Hi Kurt: I am sure you will get several answers. I recently over hauled my 49. Service tech at CIH said I would have to use the newer head, with the aluminum pistons. I used the flat top. If you are going to have it bored and you use the alum I would be sure and tell the tech about the pistons. Good Luck

You'll need to relieve the head in order to use the domed pistons.

Bigdog means you will need to GRIND out the combustion chambers so the pistons don't hit at the top of the stroke.

IIRC, there is a special head for the dome-top pistons, but it'll be tough to find because it was only used on the very very late tractors.

Thanks Nat and Bigdog! Makes sense, but why in the old parts manual when it lists the dome pistion, it does not list a different head to uses with it? thanks again!!!
