Hey, gang
I have a 75 cfm air compressor run by a small 4 cyl Continental flathead. It had an electric fuel pump on it when I got it. It worked, but was getting temperamental. Finally one day it quit. I figured that "it was it"s time". Got a new one at auto parts store. That one lasted about 2 hours. @#$%^ cheap junk, I figured. Took it back and exchanged it for a new one. That one lasted maybe 10 -15 hours and died. I"m beginning to think that it"s more than coincidence.
So- what"s killing my fuel pumps?
Is it just @#$%^ cheap junk?
It"s the electrical part that fails. After they quit, you can hear it click whenever you turn the ignition on, but that"s it. No happy little chatter that a fuel pump is supposed to make.
How do those work anyway? I assume that it"s just a solenoid with power turned on/off rapidly, connected to a diaphragm pump. It seems that whatever makes it pulse is not doing it"s job.
12 volt system, negative ground, with a Delco 10SI alternator. The pump is grounded well- even ran a dedicated ground wire to the battery to see if that would help.

I would say a bad connection somewhere. I would replace the connectors on the pump wiring , or something like that.
Is it possibly controlled thru an oil pressure switch ?

I'm sure cheap does fit the picture but it could be the vibration breaking down the electrical part.Might check volts, amps and make sure it is not getting fried.
