I have seen the late model ones in good shape with the fasthitch, cultivators, fertilizer distributor, lay offplow, and hilling discs bring from 6 to 7k at auction. I saw an early sixties model sell a few weeks ago with some cultivator parts and an incomplete fasthitch for about $2200.

Jim: Your figures support what I've always believed about these offset tractors. The value is actually in the implements, and the only real exception too that is late model 140s. Witness the one you saw with implements at 6-7 K, versus the one I saw with fast hitch only at 4.5K, yet the implements still separate them.

I have 3 of these tractors and have owned 3 others in my lifetime. The 3 I bought and sold, I bought just to get implements or attachments. I bought a 130 once just to get the fast hitch. I've done the same with plows, cultivators, etc. 15 years ago I called a bare, but running well SA, 100, 130 or 140 with U drawbar and hydraulics, a $1,500. tractor plus what ever implements or attachments came with it. Since then, for some reason those late model 140s have caught the eye of folks with money to play with.

I have somewhere in the order of 22 implements for my 3 tractors. If I set out this morning to buy 3 more tractors, I'll bet I could have them bought right by the weekend. I'll also bet it would take me 25 years to find all those implements again. It took 45 years first time but we didn't have internet. My point is, it's a lot harder to find implements than tractors, and one will overpay for implements more often than the tractor.

In October, I saw a nice 1979 140 (last year and equipped with alternator) in Kentucky for $3700. Personally, I thought it an extremely nice tractor, but overpriced to some degree. I understand it did not sell and was sent to an auction in Ohio. I do not know what it brought there. Hope this helps you.

jpsepp: Are you telling us this is a 1979 Farmall 140 with blade, cultivators, etc., and in excellent looking and running condition. I hesitated three days on one of those last year, lone tractor was advertised for $4,500.USD. It did have one point fast hitch. Three days after the add was made public it was gone, I didn't ask the guy if he got the $4,500., however folks don't usually bow to lower prices that quick.

140s with the 04-06 type grill are hot, especially if they are late 70s tractors.

J agree with Gene, some depends on the Use you have for it, but it is a nice size to have. JimN
