Im working on a F12 engine that was stuck. After removing the pistons three cyls look good. The #1 cyl is very deeply pitted for the first inch and a half down. I dont want to do a overhaul what are my options.I do believe the engine is sleeved I have never worked on a tractor engine before so any advise would be appreciated.

If you want to get by really cheap, there are places that will sell you one sleeve and piston to replace the pitted one. We did it with our F12 when we restored it about 17 years ago. It probably has less than 50 hours on it since then, but needs to be taken apart and done right as it has a vibration from the mismatched piston, and poor oil pressure because we re-used the main and rod bearings.

Do it right this time, just order an overhaul kit and put all 4 sleeves and pistons in it - along with new bearings.

You can install new sleeves and pistons. Need to have the head reworked, crankshaft measured for wear and if it needs to be ground undersize or polished. The block probably should be dipped
to remove any dirt or sludge. Hal

In otherwords... it needs to be overhauled.

If the engine was stuck, why wouldn't you want to do an overhaul? Anything less would just lead to problems in the future, correct?

Now that was a nice, level-headed, common sense answer. That's a compliment!

I think he would feel better doing it right the first time. That's the nice thing about sleeved engines. Hal
