Can't get my M started?

My M hasn't been running right since I put the mag gears back in, thought I had them right. So I put the #1 cylinder at TDC and the rotor was off a little, so I turned the gear one cog. It ran great while I adjusted the carb. Pulled it outside and left it idle and it quit after about 3 minutes. It would start but would only run less than a minute. Pulled the carb off to check and make sure nothing was in it, checked the sediment bowl and their both clean. The flow of gas is good at the hose and out of the drain in the carb. When I can get it started it will run for a little bit and then want to die I can nurse it along with the choke, but it will eventually quit in less than a minute.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

I think nursing it with the choke is the key to indicate it's a fuel problem. Have you checked the gas tank cap vent to insure it's not clogged or tried running the motor with the cap loose?

bob, next time it dies, pull a plug wire and see if youre getting good blue fire. if its good, pull the drain plug at bottom of carb then remove the throtle and idle jet screws and hose a half can of carb cleaner through them, might have dirt or crud in carb. RP

The fuel system is good and clean with good flow. I'm leaning toward it being the ignition system. When it warms up a little, no heat in my barn. I'm going to check the gap on the points, cap and rotor are new, plug wires and recheck the timing on the distributor gear.

have you checked the wire screen filter at the fuel line as it goes into the carb? The screen on mine was plugged once and did a similar thing. The screen is in the carb. This was on an H

I had exactly the same thing with the wire screen on my Super M. That screen was just totally full of little flakes. This was when I found the torn screen in the sediment bowl...
