I have a 1942 Farmall M that I upgraded to a pulling tractor. I took everything off that I did not need for pulling and it weighs 4800 lbs with me on the seat, I still have the cast iron front and rear hubs on the tractor and I can add up to 150 to 200 lbs of hanging weights on the tractor where some others that are striped down like mine just make the weight to run in the 5000lbs class, someone said that I might have a Louisville tractor how do I find out if my tractor is a Louisville?

The first M-sized tractor built in Louisville was the Super M in 1952.

Incidentally aside from an L prefix and an extra digit in the serial number, there is NO difference whatsoever between a Louisville and non-Louisville Super M. (We own one of each....both built in 1953...)

No,

You didn't "upgrade" anything.

Farmall M was not made in Louisville, only the smaller tractors Cub, A, B, C,s. The H, M, were made in Chicago.

Yes, FARMALL made the components and shipped them to Louisville for the Super M's, Farmall was building 325 Super M's & Super H's a day in '53 and sending enough parts to LVL for 75 more Super M's to be built every day. The FARMALL Plant, right on the SYLVAN SLOUGH between The Rock Island Arsenal Island in the MISSISSIPPI River was purchased by IHC in 1925 and built their first Farmall Regular in 1926.

It is hard to tell how he figured out thinking that it is a Louisville tractor but all I know is that the early model M's were lighter than the super M

He was just pulling things out of his butt to impress you with his "vast knowledge."

Why is your tractor light? Check the oil.
