Can anyone tell me if an M&W kit for an M or an H speed up the transmission the same speed? I believe the transmission shafts are different diameters, but not for sure.Either way I want to know if either will have same effect. Thanks.

There's really NOTHING in the H transmission that fits or works in the M, well, maybe the rubber gear shift knob. The H really is a 2/3 scale replica of the M. The M always used splined shafts on both upper & lower transmission shafts, the H used only a spline top shaft for the sliding gears, the lower gears were keyed to the shaft. NOTHING from the H M&W 9-speed except maybe the control cable would work on an M and vice-versa.

Afraid I have to disagree, M and SM lower tansmission shafts are keyed not splined.

I know the SM-TA's or anything with LPTO were splined because the PTO driveshaft ran through the lower shaft. We had Dad's '51 apart so the only thing left in the rearend was the reverse idler gear Twice, but it was a long time ago (35+ yrs) I'll check My books at home tonight, the sectioned views, parts books, etc.

Yes the SMTA are splined and all gears on lower shaft are separate from each other. M and SM counter shafts use keyways in shaft and gears. M and SM counter shafts are the same length but parts of SM counter shaft has a little bigger diameter than M.

Low speed is about the same as standard factory gears, high speed is quite a bit faster. Only works in 1st through 4th gear & reverse. 5th gear is not effected because it's direct drive. Also the belt pulley, pto, & hyd. belly pump are speeded up in high range. My 3 point hitch really jumps when the transmission is in high rangeI don'tknow how this effects the pump so I usually use the low range . ken
